Skills:
Garter tab cast-on, increases, decreases, lace (charted and written options), integrated I-Cord (fully explained in pattern), welts (tutorial video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNlRyBxQVkE).
Yarn:
2 colors fingering yarn. Recommend at least 100 g/3.5 oz skein. May use different weights if desired, though this will affect the finished size of the shawl. This shawl was successfully test-knit in lace, fingering, sport, and DK weights.
Sample shown in Beachy Breeze Fibers Boardwalk Sock (75% merino, 25% nylon), 446 yds/408 m per 3.53 oz/100 g), colorways Mossy Fieldstone (C1) and Olive Branch (C2), one full skein each.
Needles:
US 7 (4.5 mm) for fingering weight. Use smaller needles for finer yarn and larger needles for thicker yarn to achieve a drapey fabric.
Circular needle 1-3 sizes smaller than above, to work welts.
Tools:
4 stitch markers
Gram scale to weigh yarn as you go
Tapestry needle
Blocking mat and wires and/or pins
Sample Blocked Gauge:
For fingering: 20 stitches and 40 rows = 4”/10 cm in garter, using larger needles
Size:
As this shawl is highly adaptable, the finished dimensions will vary with yardage. Sample used 199 g (888 yards/812 m) fingering yarn and measured 70”/178 cm for A (top edge/wingspan), 107/”272 cm for B (bottom edge), and 16”/40.5 cm for C (depth).
