Skills: Provisional cast-on (video tutorial at https://youtu.be/C4qohENfP2k). Skills needed will vary by motifs chosen, but can include slipped stitches, Kfb and YO increases, K2tog and SSK decreases, 1x1 cables, CDD and CDDP (video tutorial at https://youtu.be/op0nW8p-FZY).
Yarn:
3 colors fingering yarn. Recommend at least 100 g/3.5 oz skein. May use different weights if desired, though this will affect the finished size of the shawl.
Sample shown in Arkansas Yarn Company Signature Plush (fingering weight) 80% superwash wool, 20% nylon, 400 yards/366 m per 3.53 oz/ 100 g, colorways Kino Knits (red-orange), Knitting on Safari (speckle), and Zanzibar Waves (turquoise), one full skein each.
Needles:
Two US 6 (4.0-mm) circular needles to knit flat, or size needed to obtain gauge with fingering weight. Use smaller needles for finer yarn and larger needles for thicker yarn to achieve a drapey fabric.

Gram scale to weigh yarn as you go
Tapestry needle and scissors
Cable needle
Blocking mat and wires and/or pins
Sample Blocked Gauge:
For fingering: 21 sts and 34 rows = 4”/10 cm, Motif 1 pattern, wet blocked and pinned out with blocking wires
Size:
Varies with weight, gauge, and yardage. Sample used size L cast-on and 1,044 yards/ 955 m fingering yarn and measures 19”/ 48 cm by 63.5”/ 161 cm.
